Director
Lindsay Holly, Ph.D.
Dr. Holly (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor of psychology at Marquette University and a licensed clinical psychologist. Her research focuses on improving access to and engagement with mental health services for youth, particularly those from underserved and marginalized communities. She is especially interested in understanding how parents and families influence the help-seeking process and in developing innovative, culturally responsive approaches that make it easier for young people to receive the care they need.
Dr. Holly is committed to conducting research that extends beyond academic discovery to create meaningful improvements in clinical care. By partnering with families, schools, and communities, her work aims to reduce disparities in mental health service access and ensure that evidence-based care reaches the youth who need it most.
Dr. Holly received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Arizona State University in 2016 and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Boston University’s Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. She joined Marquette’s Department of Psychology as an Assistant Professor in 2019.
Graduate Students
Madeline Buchanan, M.S.
Madeline (she/her/hers) is a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Marquette University. Madeline graduated from the University of Washington in 2017 with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Education, Learning, & Society. During her time at Marquette, she has worked with a vast array of clients in both the assessment and therapeutic setting. Currently, Madeline is on internship at Dell Medical School/Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, TX. Her research interests broadly include understanding barriers and facilitators to treatment participation for youth and their families, particularly among parents and caregivers. Madeline’s dissertation, which she defended in May 2026, investigated parents mental health literacy including its conceptualization as a multidimensional, context dependent construct. She also explored what parents want and need to know regarding children’s mental health in an effort to inform mental health literacy interventions that are aligned with the values and needs of the intended consumers (i.e., parents). In her free time, Madeline enjoys spending time with her family and getting outdoors. Madeline is excited to take what she has learned in the CARE Lab to further address the challenges of accessing treatment among underserved and underrepresented populations.
Alexandra Bowling, B.A.
Alexandra (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Marquette University. She graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Applied Developmental Psychology. As an undergraduate, she volunteered for studies examining the development, maintenance, and treatment of child mental health problems, and interned at an early child care center. After graduating, she worked as a research coordinator for the PTSD Treatment and Research Program at Case Western Reserve University, primarily overseeing a randomized controlled trial examining the efficacy of a lay-led, faith-based intervention tailored for Muslim refugees. Her research focuses on the role of parents in youth mental health service accessibility and engagement. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her dog, read, and Facetime with faraway friends and family. She is looking forward to continuing her work in the CARE Lab and to gain experience and knowledge related to her interests!
Emily Bivins, B.s.
Emily (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Marquette University. She graduated from Tufts University in 2022 with a B.S. in Clinical Psychology and minor in Child Studies and Human Development. As an undergraduate student, Emily engaged in research surrounding racial discrimination and gained clinical experience working as a mental health specialist at McLean Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Following graduation, she worked as a research coordinator at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She coordinated and conducted assessments for the Texas Youth Depression and Suicidality Research Network and Texas Child Trauma Research Network, two state-funded, longitudinal projects aiming to characterize and improve mental health outcomes for youth across the state of Texas. Broadly, Emily’s research interests include identifying factors affecting mental health treatment access, engagement, and outcomes for trauma-exposed youth of color, as well as the improvement of culturally informed treatment adaptations. Outside of work, Emily enjoys socializing with friends and family, trying new recipes, and exploring her creativity through fashion, design, crochet, and dance. Emily is very excited to continue her journey in the CARE lab!
Rylee Abaya, B.s.
Rylee (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Marquette University. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2024 with a B.S. in Psychology and minors in the Psychology of Crime & Justice and Social Work. As an undergraduate student, Rylee worked in research labs focused on dismantling health inequities affecting racial, ethnic, and sexual minority populations. After graduating, she worked as a project coordinator for the CIRRCLE lab at Loyola. Here, Rylee supported several community-based projects with public schools and youth development organizations that aimed to promote racial equity in mental health services for Black and Brown children. Rylee’s research focuses on how acculturative and systemic stressors impact treatment engagement among underrepresented youth and improving culturally responsive interventions that strengthen the community networks supporting youth mental health. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, reading, crafting, and trying new matcha cafes. Rylee is ecstatic to be part of the team and contribute to the meaningful work being done in the CARE lab!

Hava NordQuist
Hava (she/her/hers) is currently a senior at Marquette University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Health Studies. Hava plans to continue her education beyond the undergraduate level and hopes to ultimately work in a clinical setting with families and children. In her free time, Hava enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and listening to music. She is excited to continue working in the CARE lab and contribute to its ongoing research.
